Govt. declares services in Banking and Coal industry to be Public utility services under Industrial Disputes Act

On October 16, 2017, Ministry of Labour and Employment extends timeline of the services in Banking Industry to be considered as a Public utility services for the purpose of the Act. The Banking services are covered under item 2 of the First Schedule of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947.

The ministry states that the extension has been provided for 6 months with effect from October 21, 2017.

Thereafter, the ministry also declares that service in the Coal industry covered by item 4 of the First Schedule to the Industrial Disputes Act to be considered as public utility services for the period of 6 months.

The declaration has been made under the powers conferred under Sec. 2 (n) (vi) of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947
