Govt. extends the deadline to revise MRP upto 31st December, 2017

Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution update

Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution extends the time limit for the manufacturers or packers or importers of pre-packaged Commodities to display revised retail sale price (‘MRP’) to 31 December, 2017. The reason to extend the timeline is due to the reduction of GST rates on certain specified items. The ministry further declares that changed MRP can be made by way of stamping or putting sticker or online printing, as per the case.

The permission to affix an additional sticker or stamping or online printing for declaring the reduced MRP on the pre-packaged commodity has been granted under Rule 6 (3) of Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011. However, Govt. has pointed out that the earlier Labelling/Sticker of MRP would continue to be visible on the product.

Govt. highlights that the above relaxation is applicable only on the unsold stocks manufactured/ packed/ imported after 1st July, 2017 where the MRP would reduce due to reduction in the rate of GST post 1st July, 2017.
