Govt. to create national platform & Unique ID for “unorganized workers”

Labour & Employment Law

Ministry of Labour & Employment decides to create a national platform for unorganized workers. This action has been taken because there is no centralized national database of unorganized workers in India.

In addition, Govt. approves to issue a Unique ID i.e. Unorganized Workers Identification Number (UWIN) and will allot Aadhaar seeded Identification number to unorganized workers without issuing any smart card. The entire procedure would be implemented in two years during 2017-18 and 2018-19 and estimated cost would be of Rs. 402.7 Crore.

The term “unorganized worker” has been defined under Unorganized Workers’ Social Security Act, 2008 which provides for a self-declaration by a worker confirming that he or she is an unorganized worker.
